Valley of the Stars Gateway Monuments
Celebrating Neighborhood and Community

The First Valley of the Stars Gateway Monument is on Vineland Avenue in North Hollywood directly in front of Beverly Garland's Holiday Inn Hotel.

Many organizations and city officials helped make the North Hollywood gateway monument a reality: The City of Los Angeles Neighborhood Matching Fund, the North Hollywood Rotary Club, Universal City/North Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, Los Angeles City Councilmember Tom LaBonge, and Beverly Garland’s Holiday Inn Hotel.

Second monument (above) is installed along Tujunga north of Riverside Drive in North Hollywood.

The idea for the monument project came from Gloria Gold (above at dedication),
a long time resident of North Hollywood. Gold, active in promoting art in the community, is a member of the Economic Alliance’s Regional Branding and Marketing Committee.

Her original design concept, presented to the Regional Branding and Marketing Committee, was the launching point for the first monument, which was designed by Tom Ferguson, an art instructor at Glendale Community College. Glendale Community College is one of the Economic Alliance’s investor/stakeholders and an active education partner with the Alliance.

The Economic Alliance created the “Valley of the Stars” name and logo in 1998 in its efforts to create a positive image and name brand identity for the San Fernando Valley. The Valley of the Stars Gateway Monument is part of that branding campaign. The monument is a pre-cast, 2-sided concrete block, approximately 3 x 6 feet in size, with the name of each neighborhood gateway prominently identified. Monuments will be placed at strategic street intersections in designated median strips.
